“The nuclear power plant will generate up to 10 percent of the energy in all of Turkey for local consumers. From the money that the country’s residents will pay for electricity, Ankara will reimburse Russia for its investment,” he told PolitEkspert.

According to him, it is a type of high-tech export.

“For Russia, the pluses are as follows: we load our nuclear industry, recoup the costs with tariffs, even if not quickly. And we also minimize costs on the scale of production,” Mitrakhovich noted.

On April 27 Russia and Turkey officially formalized the delivery of nuclear fuel to Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, Rosatom handed over a certificate for it to the Turkish Ministry of Energy.

The construction work on Akkuyu NPP Unit 1 is scheduled to be completed autumn 2023.
