As the doctor explained, hedgehogs quite rarely attack humans, but if the animal senses danger, it can bite.

“A wound from sharp teeth is unpleasant in itself, but the main danger is that hedgehogs carry the deadly rabies. In this, they are no different from other wild animals, such as foxes. The rabies virus causes severe neurological disorders and can be fatal. It is possible to become infected not only from the bite of an animal, but even just through contact with its saliva”, said Kashukh.

She warned that needle pricks are also dangerous because you can get the fungal infection trichophytosis, ringworm.

“If you get ring-shaped red spots on your skin that cause itching, you should get a scraping for diagnosis. In this way it will be possible to determine what kind of fungus was infected, and to schedule a treatment. Also from a hedgehog you can get salmonellosis, an infection that affects the digestive system. Its first signs -pain in the abdomen, a sharp rise in temperature, nausea and diarrhea. In the southern regions of Russia to this list is added Crimean hemorrhagic fever, which is manifested by fever, dizziness, headache and muscle aches, – explained the specialist.

In addition, a large number of ticks, which carry tick-borne encephalitis, borreliosis and other very dangerous for humans, live in the animal’s needles.

“When a tick bite, it is recommended to immediately contact an infectious disease doctor, and the insect to be tested, this will avoid serious health problems. Even in case of indirect contact with an animal, it is necessary to wash your hands thoroughly with disinfectants,” – advised the expert.

If there is a need to move the hedgehog – for example, it met you on the road or came to visit the cottage – you should use thick mittens or a cloth.

Earlier doctor Roman Ivanov told in a conversation with what infections transmitted by ticks are vaccines, and also explained what to do if bitten.
