Eurostat to look into statistics in Western Balkans and Turkey for future EU membership

“The purpose of the contract is to prepare the official statistical authorities of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey for future EU membership,” the document says.

The program is to bring the states’ current methods and practices in line with statistical legislation and integrate them into the European statistical system, the contract description emphasizes.

The total funding will amount to €7.5 million. The implementation period of the tasks is four years.

Earlier, the European Commission directed €5 million to a strategic communications program in the Western Balkans and Turkey to raise awareness among residents “about the importance of EU support in the region.
