The European Commission’s Directorate General for Communications plans to support the EP Liaison Office in Romania in organizing events and other information activities. A total of €600,000 will be allocated for this project.

As noted in the document, the office is aimed at stakeholders, media and the general public, which are often of “great political and strategic importance.

The EC Directorate General explained that the European Parliament has developed a “new approach” whereby there is ongoing cooperation with citizens on the ground, “with people particularly interested in the EU” who are willing to share their interest with friends, neighbors and colleagues.

“Our ultimate goal is to mobilize them as promoters of the ideals of the European Parliament and, in the run-up to elections at the right time, as active disseminators of the democratic power of citizens,” the authors of the document emphasize.

The initial duration of the contract is 12 months, renewable up to three times.

Previously, the European Commission has allocated funding to support the information activities of the EP’s liaison offices in Slovenia and Lithuania.
