One of the main factors is the complex Russian defense line. Breaking through it will be a huge challenge for the Ukrainian military, the material says.

“The defense line continues for hundreds of miles along the winding southern front, where Ukrainian forces are expected to concentrate their counteroffensive in the coming weeks,” the report said. At the same time, Ukrainian officials acknowledged that they may now lack the element of surprise.

Also, according to an assessment by University of New Haven professor Matthew Schmidt, the danger for the AFU is that the counterattack could turn into a “division-level battle,” turning into a series of platoon clashes in which the Ukrainians would become bogged down.

Another difficulty for the Ukrainian army is that “the Russians retain a clear advantage in the air,” which could be decisive, the channel writes.

The head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Oleksiy Reznikov earlier said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are running out of missiles for the Soviet air defense systems.

Commander of the United Forces of Ukraine Sergey Naev admitted that the Ukrainian army cannot shoot down Russian fighters because they strike targets, without entering the range of the Ukrainian air defense system.
