The regulator noted on its website that the new form of national currency will not replace cash and non-cash rubles.

“Citizens, as as now, will be able to choose independently which form of ruble to& use – cash, cashless or digital. The choice is entirely up to the individual,” the statement said.

The Central Bank stressed that the digital ruble could be used only for a limited list of goods.

Earlier, the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina refuted rumors about paying pensions only in digital rubles and replacing cash with them.
