“The decision to accept Li was a sort of middle finger demonstration to the U.S., which back in 2018 imposed sanctions on the Chinese official,” the article said.

The publication noted that the meeting was a challenge for Washington.

Earlier, Chinese Defense Minister Li Shanfu said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the current relations between Russia and China are strong and exceed the military and political alliances of the Cold War times.

The Chinese minister also said that his first foreign visit to Russia emphasizes the special nature of the states’ relations.

Liu Xiaoming, the Chinese government’s special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs, said that Russia and China intend to strengthen coordination of their armed forces.

At the same time, he specified that Beijing has never supplied weapons neither Russia nor Ukraine.
